42itous.com: A Post Script

Before starting ThinkingInColour.com in 2011, between May 2007 and Dec. 2010 I wrote a personal blog called 42itous.com on Squarespace, a paid blogging platform I no longer use.

It was a personal-interest type blog, with musings on technology, music, photography, pet peeves, and personal causes célèbres. My first post, on May 24, 2007 was a review of a music album I liked (image, right).

Fast forward to one day in 2010, when I realized that I hadn’t posted anything on 42itous.com for months. I was now sharing much of my professional-interest content on the website and blog that I maintain as part of my job at UW-Whitewater, and I was sharing personal stuff with friends on Facebook, much better suited to personal conversations. It became clear to me that the idea of a very general, wide-scope, personal-interests blog has outlived its usefulness for me. Although the original 42itous.com blog no longer exists, you can still view a PDF archive of all original posts.

But I felt that I still needed an outlet for writing about my interests (technology in higher-ed, iPhone and iPad apps, presentations and  design, social media, and occasionally photography and food). Even when I write about the same topics which occupy me at work (technology) I needed an outlet that would allow me to express my own views and opinions that do not necessarily belong on the blogs and website I maintain at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. That’s why I started what originally was called ThinkingInColour on February 02, 2011, and what eventually became this blog / website, this time without any special name, just my own name this time (read more about it on the About page).
